Epic Region-wide Tree Planting Campaign Begins!
30,000 Trees in 30 Days – A Call for Action!
March 5, 2012
In celebration of the Sacramento Tree Foundation’s 30th Anniversary, an ambitious challenge has been issued to our community: a month-long call to action to pledge to plant 30,000 trees across Sacramento’s six-county region.
In partnership with Greenwise Joint Venture, the Sacramento Tree Foundation asks our community to “speak for the trees” and make their pledges from March 7 through April 8, 2012 at www.30ktrees.com.
How does the campaign work?
Individuals, businesses, students, community groups—anyone, really—can pledge to plant trees where they live, work, play and learn. Pledges to plant are logged at 30ktrees.com. Online pledges allow the Sacramento Tree Foundation to track the campaign and ensure the goal of 30,000 is met.
Answering the challenge, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District is offering 5,000 trees to parks and schools in their service area. Green Acres Nursery, with locations in Sacramento, Roseville and Folsom, is offering free tree kits with every fifteen gallon shade tree sold and 10 trees donated towards the campaign for every 100 sold.
How can people get involved?
There are lots of ways to get involved.
- Pledge to plant around your home or business.
- Organize a tree planting in your community.
- Volunteer for a Sacramento Tree Foundation organized tree planting in your community
- Tell the Sacramento Tree Foundation about a spot that is in need of trees.
Who is going to care for all these trees?
The Sacramento Tree Foundation is committed to both increasing the number of trees in our region, and also to making sure each tree planted grows into a healthy, mature tree that provides the most benefits to our region’s citizens. Tree care tips and resources will be provided to all pledgers and planters so that they can continue to care and love the trees they plant.
Community members that want to get involved should visit 30ktrees.com to learn how. There are many great reasons to plant trees:
- Trees are good for our health.
- Trees are good for our neighborhoods.
- Trees are good for business.
- Trees are good for our environment.
- Trees are beautiful.
