Tribute Giving Frequently Asked Questions

Where and when will the tree be planted?

Tribute trees will be planted three times a year at Howe Park in the Fulton-El Camino Recreation and Park District. Friends and family are encouraged to attend and assist with planting the tree.

What types of trees are planted?

Based on our “right tree for the right location” philosophy, an appropriate tree will be selected.

Can I add a plaque?

A plaque can be placed with your tribute tree for an additional $75. Three lines of personalized text will be engraved before it is mounted and placed with your tree during planting.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes. Contributions provide funds to plant and care for trees and to educate the public about our urban forest.

What’s the average size of your tribute trees?

The trees are #5 trees which are young trees 4 to 10 feet tall. We choose to plant a tree at this age because it is most likely to survive our harsh summer conditions and it will establish itself better (root growth will happen more efficiently and effectively than in a larger tree).

What time of year is best to plant trees to perpetuate its best chance of survival?

In our area the best time to plant a tree is between October and February. However, as long as a tree is gently cared for in its first 1000 days of life, its chances of survival are excellent.

Do you offer a replacement guarantee should they die within a specified amount of time?

The trees will be cared for by the Park District staff over their lifetime and trees that do not survive will be replaced by the Tree Foundation.

What else does the Tree Foundation provide with the tree?

The $425 covers everything for the planting and growth of the tree.
