Stonelake Community Clean Up!

December 22, 2014

On Saturday, November 22nd, a hearty team of volunteers braved the rain to clean up the Stonelake Community detention pond in Elk Grove, California.

The pond cleanup crew removed a total of 250 pounds of garbage from the area. Some volunteers even brought their own kayak and pulled the largest amount of garbage from inside the pond itself!

This cleanup effort is supported by a generous grant from the Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment as part of Sacramento Tree Foundation's Watershed Wise Neighborhoods project. This initiative is working to help the Stonelake Community take simple actions and utilize free services to keep the Sacramento River watershed healthy and use water wisely.

A second pond cleanup and native vegetation planting event will kick off this spring during Creek Week. The volunteer event will take place on the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in April 2015. Check our Events page for more information and to register for the event.
