Wrapping up the Acorn Harvest
November 10, 2015
Thanks for being involved with this year’s acorn harvest.
The project has been a success even though this hasn’t been a great acorn
season in the Sacramento region. Together we harvested 6,400 acorns from 19 different harvesting
locations. With your help we have ensured the most diverse local native oak
nursery stock which we will use to grow seedlings for the 2016-2017 planting
About half of these acorns will be grown by students through our Seed
to Seedling program and the other half will be planted at our in house nursery. With a
seedling oak retail purchase price of about $7, these acorns will allow us to
produce over $40,000 worth of nursery stock with very little expense. This is
one of many ways we ‘grow’ our funding and work to plant the next generation of
urban forest trees.
Want to help us plant the trees
grown from last years acorns? Volunteer planting events are now being
posted at here for online sign up. Hope to see you out there!
It was a pleasure working with you and I hope to see you
